I've been trying to decide what to do with my computer when I move to Europe. It's old enough now that it's worth less than $800 to sell, probably closer to $500. The video card is still perfectly acceptable (it was stupid-fast when I bought it), and I have no desire to upgrade that any farther right now. CPU is another story though, and I don't really like my motherboard (no overhead at all for overclocking.)
Just recently, I started thinking it might not be a bad idea to pack the video card in my luggage to take over with me. It won't take that much space, and it'll save me some cash. What if I took more than that though? What if I took most of the machine itself, and used it as a server? I'll need something to host my blog and photo gallery on, after all. And something to stuff all my hard drives into again. If I just left the case, power supply and enormous heatsinks behind, it wouldn't take up much space. Motherboard, with CPU and RAM mounted on it, and video card taken out of the slot, with hard drive. All I'd need to buy when I got there was a new case, and a decent power supply, and I'd have a machine to use until I bought a new one, and something to use as a server when I do get a new machine.
I'll have to think about it some more, but I think it makes sense.

My advice is leave it behind. Take your hard drive and perhaps a USB enclosure - but virtualize your server or just let it be offline for a month or two.
You'll be carrying plenty already and will find yourself standing on some platform cursing every ounce, and seriously thinking about throwing away some of those pieces. Garbage bins are everywhere and become more attractive with time.
Perhaps you can get someone to mail it to you?
